Nursing is a branch of allied health sciences that deals with the care and treatment of patients suffering from illness or injuries. Nurses are qualified medical experts, who work as a part of a multidisciplinary team alongside doctors and other healthcare professionals to deliver clinical treatment and care for patients in a variety of medical settings.

Nurses are often responsible for a wide variety of patients, each with different needs, so they need to be highly organised, flexible, observant, have the ability to assess patients, and take responsibility for determining the best course of action.

What is the General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) course?

  • The main aim of the General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) course is to produce qualified and trained general nurses who can effectively work as a part of the medical community. 
  • The General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) course is designed to enable eligible candidates to address the health needs of the country, community and individuals.

The qualification for the GNM course is that the students who have passed PUC or 10+2 in any stream with English as one compulsory subject with 45% aggregate from recognised boards.

Admission Procedure

The students can get admission to the General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) course via two modes of admission. The first one is merit-based admission and second one is direct admission.

Merit Admission

The students seeking admission to General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) courses under merit seats are required to apply for the colleges after the applications are released. The colleges choose the candidates according to the marks scored by applicants in their PUC or 10+2 classes. The top-scoring students will get confirmed admissions according to the merit list published by the colleges. The course fee is nominal in merit admission.

Direct Admission

The students under the direct admission process can take admission to their desired colleges without undergoing any merit admission procedures. The students can book seats directly and get direct admission to their desired colleges before the commencement of the academic year. The students under direct admissions are exempted from undergoing any merit-based admission procedures. The interested students can contact the Galaxy Educational Services for details about direct admissions to General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) courses. The fees are a little higher for direct admissions.

Career and Scope for General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) students

The General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) students can join as nursing assistants in hospitals and clinics. If they are interested in higher studies they can join B.Sc Nursing. They can do a master's in nursing after the B.Sc Nursing course. They can even join Ph.D. or M.Phil courses after the completion of M.Sc Nursing.
